Melbourne’s train network threatens strike

Melbourne’s train network is threatening to strike for up to two days over a pay deal, reports The Age.

The Rail Tram and Bus Union lodged an application with the Fair Work Commission on Wednesday night to stop work for up to 48 hours after negotiations with Metro Trains broke down.

The industrial action could see frontline Metro staff stop work for between four and 48 hours, and refuse to check myki cards, make announcements and wear uniforms.

Union members were sent a note about the industrial action application on Wednesday night, and will now vote on whether to go ahead with the strikes.

The industrial action would take place sometime in the next few months.
