More quakes rattle Indonesia

Indonesia was rocked by another strong earthquake which caused panic but there was no tsunami risk, says Travelmole.

A 6.6 magnitude quake struck north of Ternate in the Maluku Islands but there were no immediate casualties and the quake was followed by a series of aftershocks.

It was also felt in Sulawesi which was rocked by a powerful quake and tsunami last year, killing more than 2,000.

Since then a deadly tsunami hit the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra which killed about 400, and several earthquakes also devastated North and East Lombok last summer.

In the past 24 hours three separate earthquakes have struck in Java and Papua, although all were of a light magnitude with no damage or casualties reported.
