New pay deal could avert Gatwick strike threat

The threat of strikes by workers at Gatwick is looking less likely after the Unite union recommended members accept a revised pay deal, according to TravelMole.

A fortnight ago, Unite had said members including security staff, trolley supervisors, surface transport workers and engineers could begin strikes at the end of April over a below-inflation pay offer.

Unite is now advising members to accept a revised offer of 6.5% in a new proposed two-year pay deal.

The union said: "Unite members will now be balloted whether or not to accept the pay increase, with branch reps recommending that this is the best achievable outcome through negotiations."

The situation will be monitored with any relevant details to follow.
