Gatwick has announced it is to spend £180-million to more than double the size of one of its piers in the North Terminal, TravelMole claims.
Pier 6 is currently used by the A380, the world's largest aircraft, which will be moved to a recently expanded Pier 5.
Gatwick said the pier expansion was part of its five-year £2.7 billion Capital Investment Programme to expand the airport and increase efficiency.
The work is due to start next year and will be carried out in four phases, the last of which will be the building of the western extension of Pier 6. It is due to be operational by the first quarter of 2022.
