The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) says that its eHomeAffairs site is currently under construction, according to News24.

The DHA implemented eHomeAffairs to enable citizens to easily apply for a Smart ID Card or passport online. The site allows people to submit applications online, upload supporting documents, make online payments and schedule a booking to visit a Home Affairs enabled Bank offices.

However, the site is under construction until further notice and the DHA says travellers will have to visit their nearest Home Affairs office to complete applications.

Further to site being temporarily offline, the DHA has also confirmed that it offices will be closed for services this weekend due to ongoing wage negotiations.

The strike is not expected to affect passport control for those travelling internationally - but specifically front offices, facilitating ID, Passport and birth registrations as well as collections, including visas.
