MSC Cruises has taken delivery of MSC Grandiosa – the company’s most environmentally advanced ship – from Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
The company also announced the construction of the MSC Europa at an official steel-cutting and naming ceremony.
The MSC Europa will be the first of five liquefied natural gas-powered cruise ships on order and the first LNG ship to be built in France. It will come into service in May 2022 and is one of the first ships set for construction at the French yard, with further deliveries scheduled for 2024, 2025 and 2027.
All other MSC Cruises ships currently under construction will feature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. This includes MSC Virtuosa, due to come into service in October 2020, and MSC Seashore, currently under construction at a different shipyard.
