Lufthansa flight attendants threaten strike

German flight attendants’ union, UFO, is calling for a five-hour strike on October 20 at Lufthansa, in an escalating row over workers’ pay.
The union expressed its plans in a video posted to Youtube, where flight attendants and pursers at Lufthansa’s largest hubs, Frankfurt and Munich, have been called upon to take part in the walkout, which is scheduled from 06h00 to 11h00.
In a statement posted to social media, Lufthansa says that it aims to maintain the full flight schedule on the day, and calls the planned strike action unlawful, ‘as the trade union status of UFO and the power of representation of the UFO Executive Board remain unclear’.
The union adds that additional calls for strikes at the group’s five airlines, including SWISS and Austrian Airlines, are possible ‘at any time’ and says it will discuss unlimited walkouts next week.
