LAX to open new passenger pick-up area

Los Angeles International Airport will open a new central pick-up area, LAX-it, on October 29.

The area caters for passengers catching a taxi or using a ride app service and will only be available for pick-ups. Drop-offs will continue at the terminal kerbs on the upper/departures level.

Lax-it is located just east of Terminal 1, at the corner of World Way and Sky Way. Terminals 1 and 7 are closest to the pick-up area and will be a three- to eight-minute walk; the farthest terminals, T4 and T5 are about a 19-minute walk.

Free shuttles with WiFi will operate every three to five minutes during peak hours at designated LAX-it stops on the first level outside the baggage claim area. It makes up to two stops at the terminals before heading to the pick-up area. The shuttle trip will take between eight and 15 minutes

The pick-up area has restrooms, food trucks, cellphone charging stations and shaded-seating areas.

Over the next three and a half years LAX plans to modernise all its terminals. Work will include a new consolidated Rent-A-Car facility, an intermodal transportation facility and an automated people mover train. The automated people mover opens in 2023.
