Marriott faces a US$124 million (R1,76bn) fine for failing to protect customer data.
Britain's data privacy watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) intends to impose the fine under the General Data Protection Regulation.
The proposed fine relates to a cyber incident that was reported to the ICO by Marriott in November 2018. A variety of personal data contained in 500 million guest records globally were exposed by the incident.
