TravelSA's passport power drops8 Jul 2019 - by |
The South African passport has dropped on the Henley Passport Index, due to a reduction in the number of visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations that holders have access to.
The passport fell three places to 54th place, with the number of visa-free or visa-on-arrival countries sitting at 99. In 2018, this number was 102.
In Africa, South Africa has the third-highest passport power, while Seychelles and Mauritius are first and second respectively.
Japan and Singapore share first place on the Index, with visa-free access to 189 countries. The UK and US share sixth place, with visa-free access to 183 countries.
The index is compiled based on data from Iata.
