KLM: Try before you Fly


KLM says it will be the first airline in the world to run a campaign using Facebook’s Augmented Reality (AR) ads format.

The campaign, ‘Try before you Fly’, lets users on Facebook click on an AR ad. Facebook is currently testing AR ads in its newsfeed, with the format looking like any other ad on the platform. But if users click on the ‘click to activate’ button, they will have a 360-degree view of the advertised destination. Useful travel tips and information are all displayed for the user within the AR environment.

While currently in a test phase focusing on destinations, products and services will also be offered using AR technology in the future. A statement released by KLM says it hopes to add real-time ticket prices into the AR environment as part of the next step.

Destinations currently part of the campaign include Taipei, Edmonton, and Stavanger.
