China Southern to leave SkyTeam

China Southern Airlines has decided not to renew its contract with the SkyTeam alliance, as of January 1, 2019.
In a statement, SkyTeam said it would work with China Southern to ensure a seamless transition for all customers and partners. It expects the process to be complete by the end of 2019.
The airline has not yet discussed its intention to join another alliance. According to Business Traveller, speculation in the industry suggests joining oneworld might be on the cards for the airline, following the 2017 sale of a stake in China Southern to American Airlines, a member of oneworld.
