Turkey/Saudi Arabia: Rain and snow expected in region

Rain and snow are expected in parts of the Middle East through Friday, as a pair of storm systems enter the region, according to Accuweather.

One storm, bringing rain and snow, will move across Turkey, with another expected to cause heavy rain and thunderstorms from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait, Iraq, and Iran.

A prolonged snow event is expected to last through the day on Friday (November 16) across north-eastern Turkey. Higher elevation areas can expect upwards of 30cm of snowfall, with eight to 15cm possible from Sivas, Erzincan, and Erzurum by Friday night causing travel disruptions. Heavy rain will fall across the lower elevations of southern Turkey, also increasing the risk for floods and travel disruptions.

Conditions across eastern Turkey should improve by the weekend, with a second storm system bringing a more widespread risk of flooding to parts of Saudi Arabia and into south-western Iran through Friday.
