UK: Brighton Mainline to close on weekends

Work on Brighton Mainline, part of a £67 million (R1.3bn) improvement project, began this weekend, according to the BBC.

The line will be closed between Three Bridges and Brighton, and Three Bridges and Lewes, every weekend this month, with further closures planned up until next May. A complete closure is expected for nine days in February next year.

Four Victorian tunnels will be improved, and sections of the track, points, and signalling will be replaced.

Replacement buses and trains running via a longer route, through Littlehampton, will operate instead.
