Ethiopia extends e-visa service MICE participants

Ethiopian Immigration and Nationality Affairs has extended its e-visa service to include African and international participants of meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions being held in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia introduced the tourist e-visa on June 12, 2017. Now with the launch of the conference e-visa, participants of meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions held in Ethiopia will be able to apply for their visa online.

Gebreyohannes Teklu, director of the Main Department for Immigration & Nationality Affairs in Ethiopia, says the introduction of the e-conference visa will provide meetings, incentive, conference, and exhibition attendees with a fast and convenient way to apply for a visa and initiate their travel to Ethiopia, while ensuring absolute security of sensitive information.

“This is an important milestone for Ethiopia [in its aim to host more] African meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions. We are glad that we have been working together with Ethiopian Airlines for the effective implementation of conference e-visa,” Teklu said.

For Your Information

E-visa applicants may only enter Ethiopia via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Entry via other ports of entry is not allowed when travelling with an e-visa.

While South African citizens travelling with a valid passport can still apply for their tourist e-visas only, they can also receive tourist visas on arrival in Ethiopia at the regular charge (US$20 – US$70).
